Top 10 Holiday Must Haves

Updated: Aug 9

We are in the thick of holiday season right now....well perhaps not if you look outside your window as sadly it feels like Autumn again! I know some of you may be returning from holiday by now but I still wanted to pop together 10 of my must have holiday pieces for those of you that may still be lucky enough to have some holiday dates to look forward to!

You never want to be overloading yourself too much when you go away, you want to ensure your holiday packing is as essential and decluttered as you would ideally like your home and wardrobe to be! It is guaranteed to reduce stress and keep the mind calm, trust me!

I need to really start thinking about keeping my packing light, as soon I am lucky enough to be heading on a girlie trip to Marrakesh and my travel bag is literally that tiny Ryanair approved cabin bag.....it’s small but I am so up for that challenge! I am not paying a penny more than I need to just to take a bigger bag and inevitably more than I need! Watch this space as that packing challenge is going to be interesting! Sadly there can categorically be no shopping whilst I am away as there literally will be no space to bring it home, unless I ditch everything that I take!

So, what are the top 10 holiday pieces I feel you must have...here goes......

1. Travel Bag/Beach Bag

I have done this for a few years now and it makes life just so easy. Rather than take up lots of space packing a beach or pool bag and then using another large bag to travel in I literally make my pool bag my travel bag, easy! The current bag I use always gets so many compliments and requests of where I got it but it is so old, older than my 11 year old mini blue, it was a Debenhams purchase and it continues to serve me well despite being a little sun bleached!

I've popped some suggestions below for what you could use as your travel/pool bag!

2. Holiday Scent

I’m a huge fan of wearing my perfume, if I ever forget to spritz in the morning then its like when I forget to put my hoops on, I feel a bit naked. The same goes for holiday especially with sweat and sun cream, but perfume isn't ideal !for around the pool! Instead, without fail, have a bottle of Sol De Jeneiro in my sun lotion bag! The scent is like Summer in a bottle, it’s just gorgeous so I will spritz myself first thing and throughout the day! It’s a refreshing mist and the scent is pistachio and salted caramel, it's so yummy! I highly recommend it! Although spraying it becomes a tad addictive!

3. The Perfect Beach Cover

A holiday must! I’d say a good amount to have for a 9/10 day holiday is say 4 and the key here is ensuring you are comfortable enough in them to walk into a restaurant and eat without too much swimwear on show! This is always really important to me as its wasted packing to pack casual restaurant outfits then beach covers separately. I like one that covers me but is ok if a little sheer too! Some hotel restaurants can be stricter than others so it’s good to be mindful of! Here are a few options that are gorgeous, loose and floaty and will spare your blushes!

4. UNO

Without doubt this is an essential for both holiday and the airport so ensure not to pack it and instead have in your hand luggage! Enjoyed by everyone on a global scale! I wish I had invented this! I've linked the Splash UNO here as the cards are waterproof so great round the pool!

5. Sun Hat

It goes without saying to ensure you have factor 50 on your face. This is even recommended throughout the Winter in the UK, yes can you believe it! However, a hat will add that extra protection from the sun on your face but also keep the heat of the sun from your head! Ensure to drink water all day too, you must stay hydrated...I can recommend alternating water with the odd Hugo here and there!

Here are some lovely sun hats to consider!

6. First Aid Kit

You just never know! Its always worth having, every holiday I have used something for my family, from a plaster to sterile wipes! I add a few extra bits like Calpol fast melts and magnesium sulphate paste too as these always come in handy! Also some paracetamol for when you’ve had one too many Hugo’s!

7. Summer Cotton Dress

Obviously you need to pack a few outfits but a cool cotton dress is a must! I am pleased to see so much more cotton out there right now but here's a few I really love:

8. Chunky Evening Sandals

Now I have finally broken them in I wouldn't be without my Dr Martin sandals for holiday and the entire Summer actually! The trick to getting them comfy was to rub Vaseline on my ankles where they would rub and also on the inside of the sandal straps too! It worked a treat and meant the sandals were sliding and no longer rubbing and now they are just so comfortable! As they are so chunky I wore them to travel in to save packing them and actually wore them every single night, so I didn't need the second pair I packed!

9. Statement Accessories

For the evening I literally just took one cuff and one statement necklace to level up my evening looks! This was enough every evening just like my Dr Martin sandals! I have to do super limited packing for a weekend trip in September so these statement pieces I will wear to travel in so I do not even need to pack them!!!

Here's a couple of options to consider:

10. Big Knicker Bikini

Having had 2 minis my lower tummy bares the evidence of that! Of course I am proud to have grown 2 minis and birthed them but my lower tummy is an area I am conscious of as no amount of tummy work will reverse the stretched skin and stretch marks. That's ok though as I prefer to show off my upper tummy so for me a holiday must have is big knicker bikinis to match my big knickers I wear for everyday! I recently discovered Maribela Sews and these are all hand made with fabulous high waisted knickers! The best bit is you can get your favourite fabric design into your favourite knicker shape as its made to order!

So, if you are not sure where to start with the essentials of holiday packing I strongly advise that you get these added to your list and part of your packing! I hope you have a lovely holiday and I’d love to know how you find any of the pieces you added to your holiday pile from this blog!
